Laura Alabre

   Ms. Alabre is Beacon's practice coordinator.  She has worked in the fields case management for many years and specifically in behavioral health for the last seven years.  She often will be the first contact into our practice and will help you through the intake process, answer questions about our services and policies and direct you to the appropriate provider.  Her email address is reception@beaconbehavioral.com

Colleen McGuane, Psy.D., Clinical Psychologist

​​   Dr. McGuane received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in 1996.  She provides individual and group therapy to children, adolescents and adults.  She has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused Therapy.  Her areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, mood regulation disorders such as bipolar and borderline personality disorder, parenting teenagers, and adolescents.  She also conducts Workers' Compensation Evaluations/treatment and provides pain management treatment for adults. 
   Dr. McGuane has served as the Regional Clinical Director of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Youth Services and has extensive knowledge regarding pre-trial assessments.  She is also proficient in addressing substance abuse concerns and dual diagnosis clients.

Wendy F. Habelow, Ph.D.  Owner and Clinical Psychologist

     Dr. Habelow completed her clinical internship at Yale University in 1990 and received her Ph.D. in 1991 from Michigan State University.  She provides individual psychotherapy to adolescents and adults, as well as couples' therapy and family therapy. Her areas of  expertise include treating depression and anxiety including OCD, stress management for all ages, life transition management, overeating and body image issues.   

     Dr. Habelow also has expertise in working with individuals and families going through separation and divorce.  She has served as a Special Master to both the Hartford and Middletown Family Courts and provides expert consultation to attorneys, judges and family court professionals.  She is certified as a Mediator and Collaborative Divorce Professional and works as a Collaborative Coach on interdisciplinary teams, provides co-parent education, works as a co-parent counselor to help parents create and/or adjust parent plans as well as establish effective communication strategies.  She has appeared on NBC CT Chanel 30 and was a panelist for Colin McEnroe's Freshly Squeezed series.

     Dr. Habelow is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Connecticut Psychological Association, the  Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce, the Connecticut Collaborative Divorce Group where she chairs the Education Section, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers.  She has been interviewed by NBC Connecticut News for expert advice on many behavioral health topics and has written articles on various topics including how to talk to children about divorce.

Elizabeth S.  Thayer, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist

     Dr. Thayer received her Ph.D., in 1978 from the University of Rhode Island.  She specializes in providing psychotherapy to adults and couples.  She also specializes in working with families going through separation and divorce, is a Co-parent Counselor as well as a Certified Mediator and Collaborative Divorce Professional, and works with many Family Law attorneys across the state.

     Dr. Thayer was a member of The Connecticut Board of Examiners in Psychology, the former Chairperson of the Appeals Committee for the Certificate of Professional Qualifications in Psychology of the National Association of State and Provincial Boards and currently serves on the board of The Children's Law Center.  She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Connecticut Psychological Association, the Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce, the Connecticut Collaborative Divorce Group and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.  She received the Distinguished Contribution to the Practice of Psychology Award in 2004 and 2009 from the Connecticut Psychological Association.  Dr. Thayer is a member of the Connecticut Collaborative Training Group.  She works as a Coach on Collaborative interdisciplinary divorce teams and teaches the 2-day Basic Collaborative Divorce course along with an attorney and financial professional.  Dr. Thayer is also a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) Trainers Committee.

Maureen C. Gould, M.A. Counselor 

     Ms. Gould received her B.A. in Political Science 1985 from Trinity College and her M.A. in counseling in 1987 from St. Joseph's College.  She worked for 25 years with the State of Connecticut Judicial Department, first as a counselor and then as a supervisor for Family Court Services in the Tolland County Superior Court.  

     Ms. Gould has extensive experience working with separating and/or divorcing families involved in the Family Court process.  She has provided mediation, evaluation, pretrial and negotiation services for families with the focus on helping to reduce conflict and make decisions in the best interests of their children.  She has extensive knowledge of the Family Court process, child development and parenting skills.  As a co-parent counselor and certified mediator and Collaborative Divorce Professional, she provides services to families at Beacon and volunteers her time at the Children's Law Center.  Ms. Gould is a member of theAcademy of Professional Family Mediators and the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce.
